Construction specialist, Chalcroft has marked the installation of the steel framework for a new multi-million pound retail park in Suffolk, with the help of local youngsters and Cllr John Griffiths, leader of St Edmundsbury Borough Council.
Commissioned by Western Way Retail LLP, Chalcroft has been appointed as the Principal Contractor for the new 5,495m² development, which once complete, will be home to retailers The Range and B&M.
In the initial stages of the project, Chalcroft demolished the former building and worked closely with neighbouring businesses and residents to ensure the safe control and management of the demolition works. As well as overseeing the construction of the new retail units, scope includes car parks and landscaping of the site.
Cllr John Griffiths, was recently invited to the site along with more than 20 children from Kids Play Childcare to bury a time capsule, helping the children to recognise and document how their town is changing.
“It’s fantastic to be involved in this particular project in which we’re delivering real value locally through the regeneration of the former manufacturing site,” says Chalcroft Contracts Manager, Ian le Gallez. “The site had been unused for more than four years, so our first challenge was to clear the previous building whilst being sensitive to our neighbours by minimising levels of noise and disruption. Now with construction well underway, it was wonderful to have Cllr Griffiths and the local youngsters join us on site to bury a time capsule, marking a new stage in the town’s development.”
Chalcroft has a broad portfolio of experience spanning retail and factory construction through to temperature controlled facilities and distribution centres.
